The Life That I Made

I was born and was raised in the heart of The States, where the cornfields are measured by miles of length

in the land of the free and the home of the brave, in a town where the people still know you by name

and I grew in that town until I was of age, but I still had a dream that I still had to chase

so I packed up my things, said goodbye to that place, and I moved to the city to find my own way

will I remember the words that I said, when I look back on the life that I led?

will I remember the love that I gave, when I look back on the life that I made?

the life that I made

well I stayed in the city and soon settled down, I got married and planted my roots in the ground

I soon had a family with kids of my own, we bought an old house and made it our new home

I look back at those years, I can’t leave them behind, all that’s left are the memories so fragile and fine

oh the time passes quickly, where has it all gone? and what do I know now that I wish I had known?

will I remember the words that I said, when I look back on the life that I led?

will I remember the love that I gave, when I look back on the life that I made?

the life that I made

I have no debts or regrets in my name when I look back on the life that I made

will I be happy with who I became? when I look back on the life that I made

the life that I made
